Justice, or grace?

missions and ministry
“Whenever I would bring a bible home, my father would burn it…” blue sky nine just came off the road doing from a bunch of concerts in correctional institutions in Florida. There are a number of things that make those concerts difficult. One is that, to the correctional officers, our band and equipment represents an entire travelling circus of items that could be potentially made into improvised weapons. Another is that the physical security of the women in our team requires a level of diligence that is, in a word, creepifying. It can be a dangerous place. To me, though, the hardest thing is learning about the events that led up to whatever they did to become incarcerated. We get to talk to the guys a lot before and after…

western tour recap

missions and ministry, updates
Well, blue sky nine just got back home from being out west on tour for 3 weeks. We had a great time working with a bunch of different campus ministries doing outreach and/or promo events to get their years kicked off.  And at the UMOM center in Phoenix, AZ, we made some homeless women and families laugh, smile, dance and sing. That's a pretty big win. some highlights: We almost ran over the president of Mesa State College in Grand Junction, CO (if you believe HIS version of the story) Our sound board got hit by lawn sprinklers in campus quads... twice We spent $535 on trailer repairs at two different shops in two different cities in the same day trying to get home We played a gig where I…

LA’s fine, but it ain’t home

Uncategorized
We have now done 4 of the 5 gigs on the Korean leg of our tour. We have one more to go on Tuesday, then we fly home Wednesday. We've played for two large churches and two universities, and had amazing responses at all of them. Our average audience has been 350-400, which is slightly higher than in Mongolia. We've signed more autographs and taken more photos and given away more CDs and promo pictures than in an entire touring year for domestic shows. We're huge here (grin). I have shared the gospel at each show and people have been invited to begin a relationship with God, but we don't have any results from those shows yet. But we have been extremely well received and my guess is that we'll…

blue sky nine goes to prison… again

Uncategorized
[gallery] Last night, blue sky nine found our way back into Ellsworth Correctional Facility in Ellsworth, Kansas. We had played here over the weekend of April 24th and 25th, working in partnership with the great folks from Bill Glass Prison Ministries, and had a great reception. Since we were in the neighborhood on tour, we hooked up a return visit.  With the Bill Glass outreach, we were just a band playing as part of someone else's program. This time, it was all us, and in addition to playing our music, I shared my story and how my relationship with Christ has changed my life.   We played for about 200 guys, and as always, they were very receptive and excited for us to be there. Not always for the right reasons, but we'll take whatever chance we get…
