So, a recent picture I posted was part of a series

So, a recent picture I posted was part of a series that I light-heartedly refer to as “They can’t all be arena gigs”. It’s how I commemorate places I’ve played that are out-of-the-way, inauspicious, or otherwise unlikely, even though interesting for other reasons.

I’m not for a moment belittling the places themselves or the people I’ve gotten to play for there.

I am constantly grateful and amazed that I’ve gotten to travel the world and play guitar in over a dozen other countries. In concert halls, homeless shelters, college campuses, ancient churches, megachurches, underground churches, sports arenas, prisons, military bases, in a foreign consulate, and in an ancient amphitheater in a country in the Middle East that I can’t name for security reasons. As I mentioned to someone this weekend, the travel component of my job is pretty much a constant #HumbleBrag.

This weekend, I got to serve with @northviewworship here in Indianapolis, who I’m always glad to work with.

No matter where I’ve been, I can agree whole-heartedly with the words of a song we sang this weekend - there’s joy in the house of the Lord.

That joy has nothing to do with how good the band is, or how good the lighting is, or how big the stage is, or if there’s a hazer, or any of that stuff. It has everything to do with how brilliant and beautiful Jesus is, and how worthy He is of our worship.

Lots of us didn’t have to work today, and it was a nice quiet and relaxing day around here, and it just got me thinking.

I’m grateful for the work I get to do, and I’m grateful that part of that work is to proclaim and celebrate joy in various houses of the Lord. They might not all be arena gigs, but they are all equally meaningful.
