When your daughter calls you in the afternoon because the power window regulator quit working with the window all the way down, and she has two finals that day, and it’s raining...

...You drive an hour and a half to her college, trade vehicles, and then take the door apart so you can disconnect the window panel from the regulator, push it all the way up and tape it in place, and then drive an hour and a half home.

(And your daughter, who is an engineering student, stays with you in the parking garage and helps because she’s cool like that.)

This album came out the year I graduated high school. Whatever else you think about music in the 80’s, there was this - this was what well-written, well-produced socially-conscious music sounded like then. Some of it, anyway.

if you had asked me then if I thought that this song would still be as sadly relevant 35 years later, I like to think I’d have said “No”.

But I probably would’ve just looked at you strangely, because that wasn’t the conversation we were having about this in the 80s.

It shouldn’t be the conversation we’re having about it now, but that’s just the way it is.

And people will still tell you that some things will never change.

But don’t you believe them.
