Throughout November and December, our team has a band called Anthem City touring Indiana and some nearby states, doing about 25 shows in prisons, inner-city missions, and other places where the holidays can be difficult times for people. They’re performing a program that involves high-energy Christmas music and the gospel story – they’re taking the light of Christ into some very dark places!
Earlier this year, Zak and Becky Alwin (who perform as Rhymz Suhreal) were in the Wisconsin Dells area earlier this year, performing concerts and ministering to international students who were in the U.S. on J1 student visas. Hundreds of J1 students come and work in the tourism industry there, and since they’ll eventually go back to their home countries, this is an extremely strategic time to reach them!
When they met with Aaron, a Chinese student, he had MANY questions about faith in Jesus, and over the course of several meetings, they were able to disciple him and even help him get involved in their ministry.
As Becky recalls, “I’ll never forget Aaron’s words to his fellow peers at one of our studies, made up mostly of Atheists and Muslims. He was nervous, but unlike the past, he pushed through his fears and with a quiet confidence told them, ‘I still do have questions… but I will never doubt God again!”
This year alone, we’ve sent teams around the US and into Turkey, Spain, Thailand, Australia and the Republic of Georgia. Students like Aaron are responding to the gospel and being challenged to grow in their faith though the work of our performing artists and training teams!
But, our ministry year isn’t over yet! Later this month, I am off to Minneapolis to work with student musicians at a huge conference event between Christmas and New Years’, and then I’ll be heading out on tour to serve large missionary conferences in Spain and Thailand in early 2017.
As always, we’re grateful for your partnership with us in prayer and giving, and we’re praying you experience God’s presence and peace this holiday season!
